Blood pudding for dogs - easy recipe for dog treats
Want to make your own dog treats that are easy, affordable, and really appreciated? Then blood pudding is a perfect choice. With just one ingredient, you can create everything from soft reward bites to dry training treats that last a long time.
Here we show you how – and how you control the result yourself depending on drying time.
🦴 Ingredients
1 package blood pudding
(optional) a little oatmeal
👩🍳 How to make it
Preheat oven to 120°C
Cut the blood pudding into small pieces or punch out with cookie cutters
Place the pieces on a baking sheet with parchment paper
Dry in the oven for 1.5–3 hours
Let cool completely before serving
💡 How drying time affects your dog treats
The most important thing in the recipe is not the ingredients – but the drying time.
The longer you dry the blood pudding, the more liquid evaporates.
This makes the treats harder, less sticky, and last longer.
Shorter time (approx. 1.5–2 h) → softer treats
Longer time (approx. 2–3 h) → drier training treats
If you want really durable pieces, you can leave them at low heat for even longer.
🐾 Tips for best results
Punch out with small cookie cutters for extra nice treats
Cut small pieces if you're using them for training
Dry longer if you want a more durable treat
🧊 Storage
Soft treats: store in the fridge for 2–3 days
Dry treats: last longer, store cool or freeze
⚠️ Is blood pudding good for dogs?
Blood pudding contains iron and protein and can work well as a treat in small quantities.
Always check the ingredient list before giving blood pudding to your dog. Choose the purest variety possible. Some contain small amounts of onion and/or sugar, which is usually not a problem in small quantities but should be avoided in larger amounts.
Therefore, treats should always be given as a supplement – not as a substitute for the dog's regular food.
Keep in mind:
Give in moderation
Adjust the amount to your dog's size
Choose the purest variety possible
🐕 Why dogs love blood pudding
Its strong taste and scent make blood pudding one of the most effective reward treats – especially during training where you want the dog's full focus.
